Alright! I was talking with someone today, somehow chatting led to talking about 愛情ATM. It sparked a memory as I used to watch it occasionally back in high school. How the hell did I forget about this show? I’m not sure if it’s a popular TV series. I’m too tired to dive into it right now as it’s 3:44am right now, but there’s so much I could share on how much TV shows have changed over time. I’ll probably write about it next week, so stay tuned, folks!
I’m also gonna talk about 쾌걸 춘향 (Sassy/Delightful Girl Chun-hyang). Also watched it in high school but somehow completely forgot about it! This one is an older show, to be honest. Obviously not made for my generation but I enjoyed it!
I don’t really watch a lot of romantic shows, to be honest. Too many of them have lame plots with just main leads looking eye candy. That’s not love story, it’s lust story. Big difference! Obviously lust is important, but it can’t be the only reason. I mostly watch shows like Breaking Bad, Vikings (by Michael Hirst) and Friends. When it comes to fantasies, I prefer books. Yeah.. I think my imagination is better than cinematographers. Actually, it’s because book writers are typically better writers in general. They care about the story more, maybe because they’re forced to do that. In films, you can have a super lame story, but add in good looking characters and it becomes a big success.
Perhaps it’s just my personal preference, but I believe that most people also love down-to-earth characters. Book writers typically excel at creating such characters because they must focus on developing strong personalities as after all, beauty is harder to sell in books. Hell, I have seen apocalypse films where famous casting is the only reason the film is successful (HINT: The Rock). Books are better most of the time, hence everyone should read them. You’ll notice that those who don’t read books are also typically far less pensive in film writing as they’re too reliant on visual beauty, whether it’s the casting, cinematography or actually, even the sound. They forgo the plot line completely. Every good film writers read books, but most book writers don’t read screenplay. Books are important if you want to be a great story writer!
