Alright! Tonight I was feeling extra extra happy so I reached out to some of you to see which films you consider to be truly mediocre, and you folks gave some suggestions. Yeah, I asked for mediocre films suggestions cuz no one should be happy for too long! Okay, I plan to watch them and share my thoughts on if they’re really mediocre or some of you have just high standards. I’ll start watching them from the next month as I’m settling into my recent extra job. Looking forward to this film adventure! Anyway, here’s the list of movies you all recommended.
Three Steps Above Heaven
Because I ride motorcycle, this caught my eyes when it was suggested. However, then I read the description of the film and I can already tell this would be a bad film. “A girl who falls in love with a reluctant boy who loves participating in illegal bike races and has a hunger for danger and risk”. Do I even have to comment on why? If your film can only be described as “a good girl falls in love with a bad boy” and “enemies to lovers trope” then it must be bad because you have nothing else going on in the film to market. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of such books and films.
I mean, if I marketed a film to you and said, “This is a film about a love triangle”, wouldn’t you think it’s too basic? There are so many films like that out there! So, let’s say I tried to modify the script a bit with even more basic elements by saying, “This is a film about a love triangle, but the guy moves on after some time. However, after he has moved on, the girl falls for him, but is it too late? Let’s find out”.
It’s still a basic script! Friends has that, How I Met Your Mother has that and so many other films and TV show cover similar themes. Okay, I may be getting a bit too overly critical. I’m judging a book by it’s cover, dammit!
Mean Girls
You might be surprised to hear this, but I’ve never actually watched Mean Girls. It seems like almost everyone has seen it, and many folks really love it! I wonder if this is because this suggestion came from a guy who might not relate to it as much? I’m a guy too, so I’m curious to see if I’ll enjoy it as well. Considering how much everyone seems to rave about it, I have a feeling I will love it too! To be honest, I don’t think I’m that unique in my tastes. Let’s see!
Never Been Kissed
Yeah.. this one is one hundred person marketed toward girls with low self-esteem. So, it’s understandable why this dude wouldn’t like it. To be honest, I’m a very open-minded guy and can also see life from other people’s lens. I suppose I MIGHT enjoy it if I try to read into her emotions and stuff. I don’t know. Let’s find out, I guess.
The Wolf of Wall Street
Alright! Don’t freak out, but I’ve actually never watched The Wolf of Wall Street. I’ve heard it’s about a guy who invests money and gets rich, but I don’t want to look up any spoilers since I know it’s a fantastic film. Who on earth thinks this is a mediocre film? Here’s a hint for you all: Who was the one in black during our last poker night? Oh wait, didn’t we all look like we were auditioning for a biker band? Oops! But let’s be real, we all know who hates this film! You know, that anti-capitalist Thread rager, uses “仆街” in every sentences? I swear, if this person had a dollar for every time they complained about capitalism, they could probably gather enough money to make a revolution happen!
Anyway, I’ll watch and review the films in the coming month. Cheers!~
