The government in Hong Kong recently announced that restaurants larger than 20 square meters can start applying for licenses to allow dogs in their businesses (applications started May 18 to June 8). This is not it. The government is also considering researching amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance and expects to provide a concrete update within 2026! The officials said they’ll likely work on tougher penalties and stronger powers for AFCD officers.
This is actually a really good news because in the past, the penalty of animal cruelty was just a fine of $200,000 and imprisonment for 3 years. What’s worse is that, while the punishment was 3 years of imprisonment and $200,000 fine, often many animal abusers would get away with only three weeks to one years of imprisonment with almost no fine. But that is about to change! At least, that’s what the officials said.
So, why should we all pay attention to animal cruelty? Do you see the video below?
It’s horrible, right? We must realized that this planet doesn’t just belongs to us, but to the animals too. Somehow the idiots on top decided this planet’s purpose is for the whole world to work together to just make rich people richer, rich corporations richer. I don’t know why it is necessary and criticizing it is difficult cuz many supporters of our capitalist system treat capitalism like religion. If you don’t support it, it’s somehow a blasphemy in their eyes without questioning if it’s right or wrong.
Anyway, I wanna take a moment to thank all the folks that put effort into making this happen. Often we have this feeling in us that our small steps are not worth much, but it’s the little steps we take that carries our Hong Kong to the right direction.

Whether it’s the Dogathon, volunteering to rescue animals, or simply upvoting the animal rescue related videos you see online, they all come together to build the same awareness and change we all want for Hong Kong. Let’s hope the officials have good things stored for us and not just another lies.
